Zone heating and air conditioning allows the various sections of your home to be comfortable no matter what the temperature needs might be. Nearly all of the new homes that have HVAC installed by Jackson Heating and Air (including custom homes from Michael Allen Homes) utilize zoning to better condition the home and provide superior efficiency. Below are a few points on how zoning is a must for the new homes of today.
Working in collaboration with the Michael Allen Homes in East Lake Estates allows Jackson Heating and Air to choose the right system that will efficiently cool and heat year round. We strongly suggest that you consider HVAC zoning in your custom building project. At the recent Women's Council of REALTORS Tour of Homes, the East Lake Estates model home won the top honor with "Best Overall Design." The model home also won "Best Interior Design" and "Best Bathroom Design." Pictured below accepting the awards are (L-R) Tyler Schnell with Michael Allen Homes, Stacey Jordan with I.E. Designs and Michael Allen Monk of Michael Allen Homes. To show you more of this amazing home we've included a photo gallery below. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) the average American family uses 400 gallons of water per day. Of the 400 gallons of water used, 16.8% is considered hot water. On average, the typical American household consumes 67 gallons of hot water daily.
It is estimated that a typical family can save in excess of $100 per year with the installation of an ENERGY STAR® qualified tankless water heater installed at each hot water location. In our opinion, the advantages of installing Tankless Water Heaters far outweigh the disadvantages. For example… √ The initial cost of installing a Tankless Water Heater is greater than that of a conventional storage tank. HOWEVER, the tankless water heater will typically last longer and have lower operating and energy cost which would offset it higher purchase price. The typical life expectancy of a tankless water heater is 20 years compared to the conventional storage which last only 10 -15 years. √ The typical hot water heater, gas or electric, is usually centrally located in the home to supply equal amounts of pressure to all areas of the house. The storage tank is keeping the water hot 24/7 which is not energy efficient. The tankless water heater reduces the need to constantly keep water hot and ready for use. Just like the conventional water heater, the tankless water heater comes ready to be installed in either gas or electric. √ The advantage of a gas fired tankless hot water system is higher flow rates, however keep in mind that the pilot light is constantly on and could cost more to operate. That being said, each individual tankless hot water system can be turned off when not in use eliminating the ongoing cost of keeping a pilot light lit. The cost of operating a gas-fired tankless hot water system varies depending on the model. While more expensive, we suggest you purchase a model with and Intermittent Ignition Device (IID) instead of a standing pilot light. Thie IID resembles the spark ignition found on some gas kitchen ranges and ovens. Ecological Insulation has been working diligently at making a new home from Michael Allen Homes, the most energy efficient home on the market today. It is the goal of these two companies to achieve a “Grade One” insulation rating. The two choices homeowners have when deciding what type of insulation to install are spray foam and traditional fiber products. While we believe that the best insulation is achieved through spray foam it will be our goal to achieve the maximum insulation rating possible if choosing traditional fiber products. Every Michael Allen Home receives a trademarked “Eco EnergySeal Package” which includes advanced air sealing techniques to ensure that all homes have reduced air changes per hour. To put it simply, Ecological Insulation will work to seal up every crack and crevice with caulk and can foam to make sure every house is as energy efficient as possible. The International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) requires proper insulation and air sealing techniques to pass the energy efficient standards. While Alabama is currently adhering to the 2009 IEC Code, Michael Allen Homes meets or exceeds the 2012 IECC standard. Working in conjunction with Pella Windows, high efficiency Trane HVAC equipment and Energy Recovery Ventilators a Michael Allen Home will achieve a three Air Exchange Per Hour energy efficiency rating. David Kahn, partner in Ecological Insulation, believes that insulation is often one of the last items thought about in building a home. “Insulation is often an overlooked aspect of the home. What is behind the walls is usually ‘out of sight, therefore out of mind’. We believe that one way to afford more home is to pay less to operate it and keep it comfortable. Upgraded insulation is an upgrade that provides constant annual returns on investment. Utility rates do not appear to be going down, therefore the return is greater as utility rates continue to rise.” Thanks to Ecological Insulation you can rest assured that every Michael Allen Home is built as energy efficient as it is beautiful.
